Escape From The Scorching Heat : Things to Do in Shimla This Summer!

What’s up guys! This is your blogger, Gopal Garg. Travel bug bit me real hard and I was bent on enjoying some cool holidays in the mountains. Therefore, recently I made plans about visiting Shimla along with my friends. Fortunately, most of my friends are in Jaipur, which is my home town. Being an insurance agent by profession, I have developed the ability to convince people about the plans I produce before them. With the same skills, I convinced three of my friends about the Shimla trip in the coming summer days!

Ready for Shimla

Since Jaipur gets too hot during the scorching summer days, Shimla was an obvious choice for me. No wonder it is known as the Summer Capital of India! Moreover, there are plenty of things to do in Shimla, and the average temperature of this city hardly exceeds 20 degree C even during the summer days. Since it is the capital of Himachal Pradesh, therefore reaching there will not be an issue for us.

Interesting things to do in Shimla | Image Resource:

Like I mentioned above, one can check out a lot of attractions in Shimla, and I am definitely looking forward for some overnight camping experience. What I figured out through an hour of research is that couple camping is a must thing to do for the newlyweds. Since I am not married yet, so, overnight camping is what that grabbed my attention. But, if you want to experience luxury in the woods then luxury camping in Mashobra will be an apt option to consider I think.

I hope camping would turn out to be a good experience for my friends too. I believe outdoor sports would allow the adventure junkie inside me to come out and breathe some fresh air of Shimla. From whatever I came across in the web world, it seems pretty sure that Shimla is going to be one of my best trips.

Well, the reason behind are the plenty of adventurous and outdoor sports activities available, such as- the bamboo bridge, dashing cars, horse riding, sky winger, etc. Most of them are available at Kufri, which is just 17 kms far from Shimla. Apart from them, rappelling is also among the major activities to do in Shimla.

At Dhali, you can participate in this activity, which usually comprise of little less than an hour I think. With so much excitement in mind and heart, I and my friends are all prepared to explore Shimla this year.

Enjoy the Melody of Gushing Water at the Dassam Falls in Jharkhand

After visiting the famous Tagore hill in Ranchi I wanted to wish a place with natural beauty. The Tagore hill is a cultural heritage for the city as it holds memorabilia of the famed poet and writer Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. He spent a couple of years of his life at the Shantidham that is built at the top of the Tagore hill. The location of this attraction is mesmerising as it is surrounded with plush greenery and serene environs. Now the next place that I visited in Ranchi was the Dassam falls.

Dassam Falls in Jharkhand | Image Resource :

It is one of the most popular waterfalls in the state. Jharkhand is a state of waterfalls as it holds a number of other ravishing waterfalls as well. This waterfall is located in proximity to the Taimara village that comes under the Bundu Police station in Ranchi, Jharkhand.  The place is well connected to all parts of the city and can be commuted via public transport. This waterfall emerges from the Subarnarekha River which is a tributary to the river Kanchi that flows across Jharkhand.

The height of the Dassam falls is around 44 metres. It is a breathtaking experience to watch the water pouring from such great height with immense force. The site is very popular among nature lovers and Argonauts. The sound of water from this natural cascade gushing down the hills echoes all around the region.

The untainted and clean waters of the waterfall are very alluring to tourists. Many vacationers take a dip in the waters to enjoy its purity. However they are constantly warned not to get into the water as the currents are powerful enough to drown even good swimmers. Unfortunately there have been a couple of mishaps and even deaths due to drowning in the water of this cascade.

There are also a couple of eateries in the vicinity where visitors can enjoy snacks and beverages. Picnickers come to enjoy at this site in large volumes. I had a really nice and rejuvenating experience at the Dassam falls in Ranchi. The sound of pouring water from such elevation still echo in my ears and the beauty and thrill that one feels at this site are difficult to define verbally.

Pune Jaipur Superfast Express: For Those Who Love Journeys!

Though known as “The Pink City” like every other place, Jaipur too seems monotonous after having lived here for quite a while and that was when my visit to Pune came and struck me as fresh breeze. Pune known affectionately as “The Oxford of the East” is a wonderful place to visit and settle; courtesy- the amazing crowd it hosts alongside the pleasant weather that dominates the city for a major portion of the year. For my premier visit to the city, I decided to opt for the Jaipur-Pune Superfast Express.

The reasons behind opting for this particular one out of all the Jaipur Pune Trains were several, the foremost one being the easy going time at which it departs Jaipur and arrives at Pune. The journey though takes close to twenty-three hours, starts at Jaipur at fifteen minutes past nine in the morning (9:15 am) and commences at five past eight; the next morning (8:05 am) at its final destination, Pune.

The number of stoppages of the train is adequate, ten to be precise and the halts are not excruciatingly long which sure offers great relief. The itinerary I followed to receive meals was of the following sort, I packed my breakfast from Jaipur and carried some light packed snacks for the journey; post which I picked lunch from Kota Junction at 12:50 pm. Though I bought lunch from the station, there are a few joints present on the Junction from which using the app or from the website, food can be ordered.

For dinner, if you’re not a night person and wish to indulge in siesta later during the evening, the convenient option for dinner is Ratlam Junction (Courtesy “Jab We Met”; we all know this station) where the train halts for ten minutes at 1810 hours and there are varied options available for dinner. If the night is more of your thing, wait until the train stops at Vadodara Station at 2200 hours and pick up dinner from among the diverse options this place has to offer.

I reached Pune the next morning, and the journey impressed me and left me adequately active.

Vaigai River Madurai: Heart Of The City’s Agricultural Activity!

There is always a feeling inside me, water heals everything. The beauty of water be it in a still water lake or the flowing water in river or the waves at the ocean make my mind calm. This is the reason that I wanted to include the Vaigai River in our already packed historic trip to Madurai. It was actually the other way round when I heard people saying that had been contaminated by industrial wastes.

Like any other environmentalist, I too was a bit worried at first. When we witnessed the beauty of the river, I really wanted to thank those social activists who had taken a lot of measures to clean this river. I was interested in visiting the river’s basin where the agricultural activities took place. The twist and turn of the river was exciting to watch.

I was constantly googling the details of the river! It was good to know that the river flows for 250 kilometers and comes from the Varushanad Hills from the western part Tamil Nadu. If I get a chance to visit Madurai again, I wish to go up to the hills and find out how naturally it starts from its origin!

Now wonder the glory of Pandiya Nadu was due to the fact that this river flows through this city. May be we might have skipped this place in our tight schedule. But I was very particular to visit. I frankly did not listen to what some people told about this place and I was simply prepared to follow my instincts. And this is how I landed at this most beautiful river.

One cannot reach Madurai without crossing the bridge that flies over this river. I just asked my driver to park in a nearby area, walking down on the sideways and tried to reach the Vaigai River Madurai. People said it was a little steep there. Anyway I managed to climb down and was actually amazed that it was a picture-perfect place and took as many pictures of the river! May be next time I might even try stepping into the water and take a dip in it!

Kumbakarai Waterfalls Periyakulam: An Ideal Trekking Spot!

It was not in our plan to include something adventure this time! But whenever it comes it a holiday, we skip the plan and this year too it happened. It just took 2 days to visit all the temples in and around Madurai and we had two more days left. Why not try something adventure, stuck our mind. Kodaikanal was very near to the city and a popular hill station, but with just 2 days in hand, it is not possible to reach that place and see all the scenic spots.

Google is always our best friend and that how we got to know about the Kumbakarai Waterfalls Periyakulam. A stay near a boys’ college was worthwhile and as I am an insurance agent, it don’t mind talking to strangers and I am actually used to do that always! This is the reason my friends were relying on me to enquire about this place and those guys were kind enough to explain about the trekking involved in that falls.

So after a trek, we got another day to rest and leave back to the place where we started our voyage! At first, it was quite thrilling to know there are snakes, gaurs and tigers near the falls that are always ready to attack whenever they smell the human existence in that area. They convinced us that it was a just an information given to every trekker. The good news was until today no people were attacked by the animals in that area!

So this was the right moment and motivation for us to being exploring the falls. We saw a group of gaurs and they even stared at us, we were fortunate they were not in a mood to attack us, they were busy eating! We finally arrived at the falls after a 3 hour trek. Thank god it was not monsoon, else the fierce water currents might not allowed us to take such a wonderful bath. We were fascinated to see another crowd and came to know that this is one of the dangerous waterfalls! The best part was, they told us only after we came out from the 400 feet waterfalls.

Destination Of The Week : Mrigavani Wildlife Park

Mrigavani Wildlife Park

Description :- So you think that leopard chasing deer can only be seen in Animal Planet? I witnessed it live at the wildlife park in Hyderabad. It was so huge and when it pounced on the deer, there were Oohs and Aahs sounds from the jeep! Oops, the sound alerted the deer and it ran off!
