Flora Fountain Mumbai – A Beautiful And Ornate Fountain

After visiting the awesome museum and art gallery, we moved to closely located and very famous flora fountain of Mumbai. We hired a taxi and headed towards the famous tourist spot. We reached there in a while. The Flora Fountain is declared as a heritage structure of India since the year 1960. This famous and prestigious fountain of Mumbai city was built in 1864. The fountain was given the name ‘Flora’ which is derived after the name of the Roman Goddess of Flowers. This well-known fountain was built up by the Agri-Horticultural society of Western India.

On reaching the monument, we noted that the ornate Flora Fountain is carved out of Portland stone and is beautifully coated with white oil paint that gives it a magnificent appearance. A splendid statue of the Roman Goddess- Flora is established at the top of the structure that gives the edifice even more splendid appeal.

Many tourists who visit Mumbai always schedule their sightseeing in such a way that they get time to explore this amazing monument and enjoy the beauty of fountain, lavish gardens and the beautiful glare of fountain lights after sunset. Those who have a packed schedule, soak the beauty of the place by driving past the monument, as it is located close to the road.

This place is also considered as an important location for numerous commercial activities. Many commercial institutes like Bombay Stock Exchange and Gateway of India encircle the Flora fountain. Apart from sightseeing and commercial activities, the place is also a delight for people who like shopping and food as many local delights are present nearby. We waited till dawn to see the beauty of the place when illuminated with colorful lights and also captured it in our camera. We spent some more time in the well-maintained garden, and also enjoyed shopping some local articles from the nearby shops. Though the place was packed with people, we enjoyed the beauty of the fountain.

The place is also acknowledged as it was a part of a struggle with the then Government of India for the formation of Maharashtra state.
