It has been two lovely days in the national capital. We wanted to make the trip more interesting after the visits to the historical monuments. A day completely marked out for shopping and munching some Delhi delicacies. We planned to spend the entire day; the nearest local market was Chandni Chowk. What more could I ask for! A well known wholesale market in Asia, I was eager too like my family.
We had breakfast at the hotel and as the market was very near, we hired a rickshaw to get to the place. It was around 11 am., and Delhi was awesome with its pleasant climate and large crowds who were already there in the market. I did not have any particular thing in mind to shop, but would pick something if it interests me. My wife was interested in picking up some exclusive chikankari suit materials. The cloth market had a complete lane with exclusive dress materials. I was wonder struck on seeing such a large collection.
We got into a shop, and my wife was busy with her search. Finally, after an hour, she found something that she thought of. Whew..Women and shopping! Demands quite a lot of patience! We began to walk ahead to a different lane where I found a number of hardware shops. The market was getting busier, it was buzzing with people.
I wanted to pick up some leather belts and shoes so, I stopped to ask a shopkeeper about the leather shops. He told me the directions and I followed suit. Wow! What a vibrant market! I could see a number of shops and lovely stuffs displayed. After a long walk, we entered a shop and I purchased a couple shoes. I found the price very reasonable.
It was lunch time, and all of us wanted a break to have lunch. Chandni Chowk has some of the finest eateries. You get all kinds of street food, north Indian, fast food, South Indian, Chinese, Continental and more. We decided to have some traditional food. We chose to have in Haldiram’s restaurant. Excellent food..prompt service and wide range of food. We all loved the meal. Shopping continues for another couple of hours…we had a lovely day!!!
